"Cute-Cute" (New Pattern Release!)

11/19/2018

I am beside myself with excitement for this new pattern release! I can hardly believe that it erupted from my brain and then was created by my own fingers. God has definitely blessed me to be able to advance my creative skills lately, and I give all credit to Him who is the ultimate designer.

This design was thought up as I handled the new yarn that came to me via an Artisan KnitCrate Box Subscription. (see the unboxing here) I also really wanted to work in the simple Slip-Stitch Lace pattern found in my copy of the Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary by Wendy Bernard.
The yarn is "Brushed Steel"  Elf Merino by Yarn Fairy & the Pixies in a medium worsted weight. The color is an oddity. I would say in the light that I have observed it, that it is an off-white with a hint of grey and lavender. The second batch I received had more Lavender than the first.
This yarn worked perfectly with my favorite size 7 ChiaGOO interchangeable needles to  make these adorable fingerless gloves. They are knit flat, starting at the top rib, and then seamed up the side leaving a hole for the thumb.

**As of 11/20/18 this pattern has been updated to include a Row 3 Purl in the Cuff section, and a note about size differences with sport/DK versus worsted weight yarn. **

After the glove were made, I knew I had to design a hat to match! I didn't want to incorporate the lace into the whole body of the hat because I like to keep things simple. So instead, I crunched numbers and figured out how to just insert it into a section of a garter stitch based design. Knitting in the round with the magic loop method, this little hat worked up quickly by holding two strands of yarn together and  with just enough challenge to entertain my fingers, but not so much complication that I couldn't set it down to give my daughter attention.
She was really excited about her special matching set and when I asked her what the pattern should be called, in her sing-song laughing sweetness she responded: "Cute-Cute!"
